Hi everyone,

Just thought I share a little trick I came across on Windows 8 and Windows 10 when it comes to the Start Screen/Menu. Many people are probably aware that you can apply custom tiles to the Start Screen via tools such as OblyTile or Pin More. However, the problem with this is that it leaves some inconsistency between the start screen icon and the desktop icon of the app. At the same time, modifying your system is something that some people don't want to do. So here's a simple trick for making metro/modern style tiles without any system modification or the need to install an app. Here's is the result of this:

How is this possible? All it takes is a white 48x48 ico with a color outlining it:

Windows will automatically take the outline color and apply it to the tile. The downside to this is that there is only a handful of colors you can choose from and for some it may be harder to apply than OblyTile.

If people are interested, I am thinking about making an icon set specifically for the Windows 8/10 start screen based on this style.

Would'nt it be enough to set a single pixel to the color you want, and reduce it's alpha transparency value to 1?
